Northern Engraving to Close in August
Posted 22 June 2008
Waukon's second-largest employer, Northern Engraving Corp., has announced plans to close its facility this August.  The plant currently employs 207.

Northern Engraving makes nameplates and other decorative products for a wide variety of items such as electronics and automobiles. The company is headquartered in Sparta, Wis.

The company this week filed a required plant-closing notice with government and union officials, indicating its intent to close the doors. Permanent layoffs are expected to begin about Aug. 8 and be completed within two weeks.

Northern Engraving is the community's second largest employer, with only the Allamakee Community School District employing more - about 250 employees in all. Waukon’s population is about 4,100.

Northern Engraving closed its Lansing plant in 2002.
