Northern
Engraving to Close in August

Waukon's second-largest employer, Northern Engraving Corp., has
announced plans to close its facility this August. The plant
currently employs 207.
Northern Engraving makes nameplates and other decorative products for a
wide variety of items such as electronics and automobiles. The company
is headquartered in Sparta, Wis.
The company this week filed a required plant-closing notice with
government and union officials, indicating its intent to close the
doors. Permanent layoffs are expected to begin about Aug. 8 and be
completed within two weeks.
Northern Engraving is the community's second largest employer, with
only the Allamakee Community School District employing more - about 250
employees in all. Waukon’s population is about 4,100.
Northern Engraving closed its Lansing plant in 2002.
