Severe
Storms in Area Yesterday
Posted 3 July 2008
Hail and strong winds were reported yesterday, Wednesday, July 2,
following a round of severe weather that traveled through Allamakee,
Clayton and Grant counties. Three-quarters of an inch diameter hail was
reported near Fennimore, Wis. Wednesday morning. Later in the day, one
inch diameter hail was reported near Rossville. Wind damage from severe
thunderstorms in the area was reported 10 miles north of Elkader and a
60 mph wind gust was recorded near Osterdock in Clayton County.
The cold front was responsible for the outbreak of a line of severe
storms that crossed Eastern Iowa and spawned what officials believe was
a tornado just west of Van Horne in Benton County. No one was injured
there, but several farm buildings and grains bins were destroyed.
